What is available?
The academy describes its main 120-hour TESOL/TEFL course as self-paced online study, with 169 lessons, 19 assessments, a downloadable certificate and tutor support. Its course pages say the entry-level course is accredited by ACCREDITAT and CPD. A separate Level 5 Diploma in TESOL is described by the provider as a 200-hour qualification awarded by Highfield Qualifications and regulated by Ofqual.
These accreditations apply to specific products and award relationships. A UK learning-provider registration or private accreditation does not establish that a particular Thai employer accepts the course. For the Level 5 route, verify the exact qualification title and current regulated-qualification record; ask employers about the exact award before paying.
Published fees do not match across pages
At the time checked, the academy homepage and course navigation showed US$36 for the 120-hour course. Its detailed course listing showed a discounted £29 price (with a higher crossed-out price). Its Level 5 listings also vary: a course catalogue showed £149 for four months of access and £159 for lifetime access, while the homepage showed US$189. These are live promotional displays, not a stable price quote.
Before checkout, confirm the currency charged, sale expiry, access period, certificate postage or hard-copy fee, taxes, refund policy and upgrade price. We do not present one fixed current fee because the official pages show different prices and currencies.
Does the online course include teaching practice?
The self-paced course page describes online lessons and assessments. The academy advertises a separate free 36-hour online teaching practicum with real ESL students. The page says the Fall 2026 round is underway and applications are closed; it does not give a date for the next round. Admission is selective, requires a completed academy course and a two-hour weekly commitment over 18 weeks. It is not automatically included in the self-paced certificate or equivalent to in-person practice in a Thai school.
Ask whether the practicum is open for applications now, how many hours are guaranteed after acceptance, which students you teach, who observes or assesses you, what feedback and certificate you receive, and what happens if you are not selected. Confirm whether your target employers accept an online practicum.
Employment support and Thailand fit
World TESOL Academy maintains a job board and provides course information for teachers seeking work in different countries. The public pages reviewed do not promise a Thailand job placement as part of the basic online 120-hour course or Level 5 Diploma. A certificate does not guarantee employment, a Thai teaching authorization, a visa or a work permit.
If you plan to teach in Thailand, ask specific schools whether they accept this exact course, certificate and study format. Confirm degree, nationality, document, licensing and work-authorization requirements separately with the employer and relevant Thai authorities. A cheap online course may meet a stated certificate requirement while still leaving you to build classroom experience and local job support on your own.
Who might consider it?
Consider comparing the 120-hour course if you want flexible online study and have confirmed your target employers accept the exact certificate. Consider the Level 5 route if you want the named regulated qualification and are prepared for its assessment requirements; verify the award on the current official register first. Do not treat “equivalent to CELTA” or “internationally recognized” as a guarantee that every employer will accept it.
