Quick answer

Read the cancellation terms before paying

A deposit can be difficult or impossible to recover under a provider’s published cancellation policy, so treat it as money at risk until you have checked the written terms. Essential TEFL’s terms, checked on 13 October 2026, say that course fees and deposits are non-refundable after payment. The same terms list a 20,000 THB deposit for both its Standard 120-hour and TQUK Level 5 courses, and an optional 3,000 THB booking-flexibility arrangement for one course-date change, subject to availability and notice conditions.

That is a summary of the provider’s published terms, not legal advice or a conclusion about rights in every situation. The provider’s terms also say that rights which cannot lawfully be excluded are not limited. Read the terms supplied for your booking, ask questions in writing, and keep the booking confirmation and payment record.

Course discussions on Reddit and ASEAN NOW show prospective teachers asking about training quality, supervised practice, job assistance and whether an in-person course is worth the cost. Those posts are individual experiences and questions, not independent verification of a provider’s current terms or graduate outcomes. We use them to identify what readers need to check, not as proof of what a course delivers. Example discussion about in-person TEFL courses in Thailand.

Before you send a deposit, confirm these seven points

  1. Exact course and intake. Ask for the qualification name, location, start and end dates, timetable and booking conditions. Do not rely on a general course page if your confirmation describes a different option.
  2. Total price and payment schedule. Confirm the agreed tuition, deposit, balance due date, payment method and any transfer or currency-conversion charges. Ask whether materials, assessment, certificate registration, postage or other required costs are included.
  3. Cancellation and refund terms. Ask what happens if you cancel, cannot attend, need to leave early, or the provider changes or cancels the course. Ask which terms apply on the day you book and whether any written exception is part of your agreement.
  4. Date changes and deferrals. Confirm whether a change is possible, how many changes are allowed, the fee, notice deadline and whether the new date must be available. A date-change option is not the same as a refund.
  5. Entry and completion requirements. Check age or English requirements, attendance, observed teaching practice, assignments, assessment deadlines, resubmission rules and what happens if you do not pass.
  6. What support actually includes. Separate training, job-search advice, school introductions, interviews and job offers. Ask for the exact service and eligibility conditions in writing. None of these promises by itself establishes a job offer or permission to work.
  7. Documents to retain. Save the dated course page, full terms, offer or booking confirmation, payment receipt and any email that changes a standard policy.

What Essential TEFL’s current published terms say

On 13 October 2026, Essential TEFL’s official teacher-training terms list a 45,000 THB fee for the Standard 120-hour course and 50,000 THB for TQUK Level 5. Each has a 20,000 THB deposit; the remaining balance is normally due by the first course day unless another arrangement is approved in writing. The terms say deposits and fees are non-refundable after payment.

The terms also describe an optional 3,000 THB booking-flexibility arrangement that allows one date change, subject to availability and notice conditions. Confirm whether it applies to your intake, when notice must be given, and what happens if the new dates do not work for you. Do not assume it adds a refund right.

For course dates, current fees and the exact option you are considering, check the provider’s dates and fees page and request the terms for your booking. Course information can change. A later web-page update does not necessarily replace the terms attached to a confirmed booking; keep the version you agreed to.

These referral links apply only to the in-person Standard 120-hour and TQUK Level 5 courses as confirmed for SiamTEFL. All-In and Paid Internship are not within the confirmed referral scope. The course fee and booking terms do not establish that a provider can secure employment, a visa, a teaching permit or a work permit for you.

A short message you can send before booking

Use these questions as a starting point and ask the provider to answer for your chosen course and dates:

Before I pay, please confirm in writing:
1. The exact course, qualification, location and dates on my booking.
2. The total amount due, deposit, balance deadline and any required extra charges.
3. The cancellation and refund terms that apply to this booking, including if the course changes or is cancelled.
4. Whether I can change dates or defer, the fee, notice deadline and availability conditions.
5. The attendance, teaching-practice and assessment requirements, plus any completion or resubmission charges.
6. What job support means in practice and which conditions apply to me.

If an answer is important to your decision, make sure it appears in the booking documents or a written agreement—not only in a call or a general marketing statement.

For job-assistance claims, see our separate guide to what a TEFL job-placement promise actually means. A course provider cannot replace your own checks of an employer and the relevant Thai authorities.
